Riley & Camille, 2015

Riley is a Certified Permaculture Designer, Community Organizer, and Licensed Massage Therapist, with a degree in Sustainable Living from Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa.

Camille is a Community Organizer and Yoga Instructor, with a Master’s Degree in Transpersonal Counseling and Art Therapy from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado.

January 2014, we began working together on a “Placemaking” project in Gulfport, Florida– spearheading an effort to revive the city’s community garden. We started this project with the intention of strengthening communal bonds, increasing local food production, and stimulating the local economy.

To achieve these goals, (2014-2016) we organized and lead garden meetings, introduced community members to Sustainable Living and Permaculture techniques, and launched and managed a fundraising campaign and blog which served to finance and chronicle the project.

Our involvement with this project has not only taught us a great deal about group dynamics and community building–it has also taught us a great deal about ourselves, while at the same time reinforcing and deepening our commitment to a mindful, regenerative lifestyle.

In pursuit of such a lifestyle, we will soon be settling down somewhere in order to homestead (i.e. grow our own food, harness renewable energies, and pursue a environmentally responsible lifestyle).  However, we are unsure of exactly where we would like to settle.  So–to help us make up our minds– we will bid farewell to our Gulfport friends on Feburary 25 (2016) and set out on a cross country road trip.

We have given ourselves a year to travel throughout the U.S. in order to explore the country’s various landscapes, climates, and communities. –Whether it will take us a full year to decide where to settle we are unsure, but we have allotted ourselves 12 full months should we need it.

During our travels we will also be doing some work on various organic farms and homesteads in order to gain more hands-on experience and knowledge which we will eventually apply to our own property.

We will be documenting and freely sharing what we learn throughout the course of our travels here on this site, so stay tuned 🙂

All the best,

Riley and Camille
